Modernization at full speed

September 7 in suburban Shcherbinka III International Railway Salon «EXPO 1520» will open, which will be attended by a group of companies Remputmash. At the enterprise stand the visitors will be presented the videos about modernization of such renowned to railway experts machines as ЩОМ-1200 and ПМА-1.

Ballast cleaning machine ЩОМ-1200 has been produced at the Kaluga Plant for about ten years, and is well-proven, working successfully in the whole space of 1520. ЩОМ-1200 focuses on the selection of contaminants of gravel ballast on the tracks, station tracks. Herewith, the contaminants are not thrown away, complicating the life of wipers and residents, but into the special trailers. Besides, the tasks of the machine are thickening of the surface cut prior to installation of synthetic fabrics, refined ballast laying under the track bars.

The capacity of the ballast cleaning machine reaches 1200 cubic meters per hour, the width of cleaning — five meters, and depth — sixty centimeters. Any cottager would envy such opportunities!

But during the operation the weaknesses in the machine design were revealed. Therefore, the developers, after reviewing all the comments and suggestions of the operative personnel, formed the concept of improving the ballast cleaner, which is now being realized. For modernization one of the first machines was chosen, which came for major overhaul from the Volga Railroad. The upgrading of the ballast cleaner is nearly completed, and in September a virtually new version of the familiar machine will leave the premises of the shops.

The main work is aimed at increasing the productivity of the ballast cleaning machine. In practice, only a platform was left from the old machine, which is also refined for the parameters of the new equipment. A new bolting mill of German manufacture is already installed. Of the major mechanisms it is necessary to replace the gravel distribution unit, crushed ballast stock tank, reducer of the bars chain drive, the mounting of the cab will be completely changed, more powerful and high-speed motor drums will be installed on the conveyers.

In parallel with the mechanics the modernization of electric «stuffing» of the machine is also taking place, as well as its hydraulic parts. ЩОМ-1200М will be more powerful, productive, and will significantly reduce the manual labor on the railways.
